The Dark End of the Street follows various characters over the course of one night in a suburban neighborhood where it has been recently discovered that someone has been killing people’s pets. The film explores the fear of insecurity, anxieties of growing up and settling down, and concerns of feeling disconnected and alone.
This is a delightful short film (I guess, at just over an hour). I was surprised by how engrossing it was. The dialogue and exposition slowly builds tension, and there’s just enough “That’s weird, I wonder what’s going on?” moments to draw you in. If you are remotely interested in the art of film making and how new talent learns the craft, then this movie is a study of a new director / screenwriter strutting their stuff. Don’t rent / watch expecting “Silence of the Lambs” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”, but revel in something a little different and out of the mainstream. Your time will be rewarded.
