Product Description

In this fifth volume of the series, the residents of Hobbs, Maine, are relieved to have gotten through the summer relatively unscathed by the pandemic. Town doctor, Liz Stolz, is warning about a fall surge, but everyone is desperate to get back to normal. Liz has agreed to help her friend, architect, Sam McKinnon, build a sound-proof practice room over Erika Bultmann's garage. As the days grow shorter, Erika is worried about her wife, former opera singer and Episcopal rector, Lucy Bartlett, who walks alone on the beach before dawn. Fortunately, the early Christmas gift is ready before tragedy strikes. In the process of keeping a promise to a friend, Liz antagonizes her wife. Their marriage has been rocky since an impulsive kiss last summer. As the women of Hobbs pull together to help a beloved friend heal from her loss, the dark winter brings tension and realignment to their small community.

This 5 book is not unlike the first 4 because we have strong woman of depth living fully. If you have not read the first 4 it can be read alone but I encourage you to enjoy them. I have enjoyed the books that have come out in this time of a pandemic. I need times of retreat from a world in chaos and I cherish the books that step into the real life drama. Elena Graf has shared the delicate balanc needed in such times. We see these characters navigate difficult life moments with a care that supports and loves. There are surprising moments I did not see coming. My heart was squeezed many times in those difficult experiences. Tears of joy flowed too as they accepted, appreciated and struggled through day to day life. I can't say enough how much I loved and was touched by this novel. I truely have come to love Hobbs Maine. It's life, people and way of being speaks volumes. Flawed humans trying to be for one another in a very flawed world. I have become tired is saying I love a book (though I feel it) because it simply does not convey how I feel when a book brings this much to me as a reader. So I encourage you to read this book. I will try to patiently wait for what I hope will be book 6.
